It's not a big surprise that actor Jay Baruchel has grander aspirations than being "that awkward guy" in Hollywood movies. Give him half the chance, he'll gladly talk your ear off about his love of the horror genre and his plans to eventually move into the director's chair. In fact, last year, he talked up his racially charged slasher pic "Pig" that he hopes to mount, during the press rounds for "She's Out Of My League." And of course, there's been the long talked about "Seth And Jay Vs. The Apocalypse," which speaks to his comic influences. And it looks like the actor is serious about his intentions to work more off camera.

Casting News Explosion Includes Rob Riggle As Villain In '21 Jump Street,' Tim Roth In 'Arbitrage' & Much MoreJay Baruchel is joining the cast of David Cronenberg's "Cosmopolis." The rangy young actor will play a "financial whiz kid" in the film, who makes a fortuitous gamble over the course of the film's single-day narrative. Baruchel is joining a loaded cast, including Robert Pattinson, Samantha Morton, Juliette Binoche, Paul Giamatti, Mathieu Amalric and Sarah Gadon. Baruchel will next be seen in the Michael Dowse-directed "Goon," which he co-wrote with Evan Goldberg, before lending his voice to the second film in the "How To Train Your Dragon" series. Update: First tipped by C7nema and confirmed by reps for the film, Kevin Durand ("Lost," "X-Men Origins: Wolverine"), Emily Hampshire ("The Trotsky") and Patricia McKenzie have also joined the film playing Torval, Jane Melman and Kendra respectively.

While hockey isn't necessarily our principle area of expertise, we're quietly looking forward to the Canadian hockey comedy "Goon." Written by "Knocked Up" star Jay Baruchel with Evan Goldberg (who co-wrote "Superbad" and "Pineapple Express" with Seth Rogen), it stars Seann William Scott as a bouncer who joins a struggling hockey team, and is currently filming in Winnipeg under the eyes of "Fubar" director Michael Dowse.
