Since "Arrested Development" was canceled by 20th Century Fox in 2006 series creator Mitch Hurwitz has worked tirelessly to try and configure out a plausible way to continue the story of the beloved Bluth family. Seven years in the making, coming up with the correct formula was never going to be easy. Initially he envisioned a movie trilogy, then simply a movie, then a web series, but it wasn't until conversations began with Netflix -- that series producer/narrator Ron Howard initially turned down -- that the idea of a new series became a reality.

Binging is the new black. And thus the desire to not only gorge, but to insta-weigh-in on the new Netflix season of “Arrested Development,” which premiered over the Memorial Weekend, is in full effect. The cult of ‘AD’ has grown to a deafening roar over the years, the anticipation and expectations at the prospect of the show’s triumphant return were at an all time high going into the weekend. “Arrested Development” was neglected and then canceled in 2006 by 20th Century Fox and somehow defied the odds to return seven years later with a new lease on life thanks to Netflix and their own expanding desire for (semi) original programming. But if you’re disappointed with this new season, it may be easy to understand why. Sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for.

So this weekend brings the the long awaited, highly anticipated return of "Arrested Development," and we're sure you've already got a viewing party marathon session ready to go. But of course, fifteen new episodes just isn't enough, as a movie has always been on the horizon with creator Mitch Hurwitz saying over and over again, that his new season is just a precursor to a feature. But could the show live on past that?

"Arrested Development," as the opening credits inform us, is the story "of one wealthy family, who lost everything and the son who had no choice but to keep them all together." This synopsis, about the Bluth family and their continued struggles, makes it sound like something out of the Chuck Lorre factory of middlebrow mediocrity. But "Arrested Development," created by cracked genius Mitchell Hurwitz, would go on to become one of the most beloved (and short-lived) comedy series in the history of television, one whose fan-base was so outspoken that this weekend the series will be resurrected with a collection of episodes airing exclusively on Netflix's streaming service. The unthinkable has happened: The Bluths are back from the dead.

It also means that the new season of "Arrested Development," available streaming instantly over Netflix, is about to drop on Sunday. We are so close to new episodes of the iconic cult series, about a family that falters during the financial crisis and must make do with each other, it's almost hard to fathom. Seven years in the making, and honestly not something many realistic pragmatists like us thought would ever come to pass, “Arrested Development” is returning in May on Netflix with all the 15 episodes at once, so you can binge through them all in one sitting, as is the norm for big TV digestion these days. No, it’s not quite a fourth season, or at least says Jason Bateman, but it’s the continuation of the Bluth’s story some 10 years later. Entertainment Weekly’s cover story last week has an awesome breakdown of the “Arrested Development” return and how unflappable series creator Mitch Hurwitz willed it into existence with unwavering tenacity.

Before news of a fourth season of “Arrested Development” came out, there was the fervent anticipation of an ensemble film. Now that the new season is almost upon us, the film still remains the more talked-about prize. Perhaps second only to the finale of "Breaking Bad," the big TV event of 2013 right now is the return of "Arrested Development." Due later this spring from Netflix, fans have been taking any morsel of info they can get as exact plot details remain under wraps. There hasn't been a trailer yet, though the DVD/streaming company did tease fans around Christmas by putting up artwork for the numerous fake shows that have appeared in "Arrested Development" to date. But creator Mitch Hurwitz has offered up a few more bits and bobs about what the show will deliver, and why we're not going to see every character in every episode.

The return of "Arrested Development" is a real thing that's actually happening and sounding awesomer than ever, adding John Slattery, with a possible 13 episodes instead of the originally announced 10, all set to drop at the same time next spring on Netflix. Or are they? There are still a million unanswered questions about the show, and while details continue to be kept close to the chest, Mitch Hurwitz gave a few more morsels about where the show is going next. And yes, a movie is possibly still on the table, but don't necessarily expect every new episode at the same time.

Too good to be true? Nope, it's happening. The long-awaited return of the cult sitcom "Arrested Development" is right around the corner. Or at least, production is about to start, and no, this isn't a pipe dream or wishful thinking. "Taken at AD mission control, today! All systems are go. Filming for the new episodes starts in four weeks. Woo!," Jason Bateman tweeted last night, posting a photo of himself, producer/narrator Ron Howard and series creator Mitch Hurwitz.
