David O. Russell, American Hustle, Playlist exclusive
Are awards season voters no longer entranced by the magic of the Coen Brothers? Even with "Inside Llewyn Davis" earning no shortage of acclaim, that has not translated into very much love from awards types, with the film getting completely shut out of the Producers Guild Award nominations yesterday. And today, the Writer's Guild have also shunned the sibling duo.

Making A Scene Cate Blanchett
When Janusz Kaminski isn’t lensing his often Oscar-nominated work on a batch of Steven Spielberg’s finest films, including “Schindler’s List," “Saving Private Ryan," and most recently “Lincoln," the cinematographer also occasionally settles into the director’s chair. Three films (including the underwhelming Winona Ryder horror “Lost Souls”) and a TV episode of “The Event” have allowed Kaminski full cinematic reign so far, and just as Canon performed with their own short film campaign this month that found actors at the helm, the NY Times have created their own — and allowed Kaminski 11 unique vignettes within which to work.

In Sarah Polley's Toronto-set drama "Take this Waltz," Margo (Michelle Williams) stumbles across Daniel (Luke Kirby) on a business trip, only to find he lives across the street; despite being married to Lou (Seth Rogen), Margo can't stop thinking of Daniel. Or maybe it's because she's married to Lou that she can't stop thinking of Daniel … Following up "Away from Her," Polley's second film is sharply dividing critics and audience in Toronto: Many find it simultaneously exhilarating and depressing; others find it ugly and hateful; a third faction seems to be kicking against the film not for how it says what it says, but, instead, for what it says in the first place.

More photos from the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival of course. This one is the sophomore directorial effort by Canadian actor/director Sarah Polley (the very underrated "Away From Her") and is a relationship drama that stars Michelle Williams, Seth Rogen and lesser-known Canadian actor Luke Kirby.

Considering that her directorial debut, "Away From Her," was extraordinary, earning its star, Julie Christie, an Oscar nomination (and really, she should have won the thing, beaten at the last by Marion Cotillard), we've been eagerly awaiting the sophomore film from Canadian actress Sarah Polley for quite a while now. The story of a young Toronto married couple, played by Michelle Williams and Seth Rogen, who struggle with monogamy and fidelity, the film also stars Sarah Silverman and relative newcomer Luke Kirby, and shot last summer in the Canadian city.
