Of all the 150 or so world premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival, which is getting underway as we speak, the one we're perhaps most curious about is "Cloud Atlas." An epic adaptation from the Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer of David Mitchell's excellent best-seller, the film spans thousands of years, with six separate storylines featuring an all-star cast of Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Ben Whishaw, Jim Sturgess, Jim Broadbent, Doona Bae, James D'Arcy, Hugh Grant, Hugo Weaving, Keith David, Susan Sarandon and more, playing multiple roles of different genders and races in a genre-hopping, independently produced epic.

I'm Just A Boy/Girl/Robot, Standing In Front Of A Girl/Boy/Post-Apocalyptic Tribesman, Asking Them To Love Him/Her/ItIt might be difficult to throw a rock in a multiplex in the next few months without hitting a movie starring Matt Damon, Jude Law or Rachel Weisz (let alone Jessica Chastain, who has enough movies to play on every screen), but not every actor has the same work ethic. Some like to take their time over their films, picking only the roles that really interest them; Daniel Day-Lewis, for instance. Some stick fairly rigorously to a one-movie-a-year-policy. And some would rather do pretty much anything than make movies; in particular British star Hugh Grant, who's made no secret of his dislike for the whole actually-shooting-a-film rigmarole.

While "Run Lola Run" director Tom Tykwer's collaboration with the Wachowskis on "Cloud Atlas" is prepping for its forthcoming shoot, his romantic drama "3" has a trailer that's just hitting the net stateside.

With production set to begin in just a few short weeks, it looks like the last few pieces of casting for the ambitious adaptation of "Cloud Atlas" are falling into place as "One Day" star Jim Sturgess is the lastest actor to come aboard. USA Today confirms what we've been hearing about Sturgess' involvement in the picture as they say, he "next ventures to Berlin to film the Wachowski brothers' new movie 'Cloud Atlas.'"

With reports previously touting the forthcoming "Cloud Atlas" as the most expensive German production of all time -- with a budget said to be in the neighborhood of $150 million -- as the start date nears, there price tag has been lowered but don't think for a second that the project has gotten any smaller in scope.

While they transformed the landscape with the game-changing "Matrix" film, the Wachowski siblings Andy and Lana (formerly Larry) have truly failed, at least outside their hardcore constituents, to live up to their initial promise. Their follow-up films, "Speed Racer," the last two "Matrix" movies and most of the films they've produced ("Ninja Assassin," "The Invasion") during the aughts were major disappointments. Likewise, German filmmaker Tom Tykwer took the international film world by storm in 1998 with "Run Lola Run," but has failed to connect with audiences or critics with his subsequent films ("Heaven," "Perfume: The Story of a Murderer" and "The International").
