Considering it was made on a shoestring budget, as part of Paramount's "micro-budget" shingle Insurge, "The Devil Inside" has probably already made it's cost on pre-sales, so it's likely no one at the studio particularly cares if this entry in the exorcism genre has absolutely nothing new to say.
The trailer for William Brent Bell's upcoming horror flick is yet another retread through demon possession, though this time with a found footage/faux documentary aesthetic. Anyway, this time the story follows a daughter who strives to learn more about her murderous, possessed Mom who is holed in the Vatican's hospital. In order to learn more about her Mom's plight, she tags along on a series of exorcisms and shit gets real. Loud noises! Stuff flying at the camera! Gibberish! The exact same sound design as "Paranormal Activity 3"! Yep, it's all here and you've totally seen it all before. In fact, this plays almost exactly like "The Rite" except on a tenth of a budget, without Anthony Hopkins, and featuring a bunch of unknowns, which isn't exactly a ringing endorsement.
Anyway, this will hit theaters on the traditional post-holiday season dumping ground of January 6, 2012. Watch below (or in HD at Apple), but don't say we didn't warn you.

The Playlist doesn't care about horror movies.
