Yes, the movies are a place to escape to find adventure, romance, laughter, tears and thrills but they are also a place to plunk down your kids for a couple hours of sweet relief. Every now and then, you'll be blessed by a Pixar or DreamWorks movie that manages to keep you entertained as well, and then there's the other stuff....
First up is "Free Birds," a movie from Relativity Media and Reel FX Animation Studios about a couple of turkeys who have to travel back in time and change history, so that they're not on the table at Thanksgiving. Yes, really. At least this has a pretty decent voice cast with Owen Wilson, Woody Harrelson, Amy Poehler and George Takei involved. "Bill & Turkey's Excellent Foodventure"?
Next is a sequel to "The Smurfs," because somehow the first one made over $550 million worldwide. People really like those little communist blue creatures. Anyway Gargamel is back with another big plan, Smurfette gets kidnapped -- or is that Smurf-napped? -- and this whole thing is a big pile of smurf until you just want to smurf yourself in the smurf.
"Free Birds" opens on November 1st, "The Smurfs 2" on July 31st and both are in 3D because, duh.
