As alluded to Tuesday by indieWIRE's Brian Brooks, Strand Releasing has picked up Gotham playwright Craig Lucas' feature directing debut The Dying Gaul--one of The Reeler's favorite movies of 2005--for domestic distribution. Variety also reports that Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has claimed the domestic video rights.

"Strand is thrilled to be part of the team distributing The Dying Gaul," said Marcus Hu and Jon Gerrans, jointly of Strand Releasing, in an e-mail to The Reeler. "We've been huge fans of Craig Lucas' and have wanted to work with him (since) almost a decade ago, when we were developing a project together."

The Dying Gaul, which enjoyed its New York premiere last month, was the closing night film of 2005's Outfest in Los Angeles. Strand has not yet set the film's release date, but look for a late fall release to coincide with an Oscar push for stars Patricia Clarkson and Peter Sarsgaard.
