'Circle' Jerk Set for Dec. 12
Get out your calendars, everybody—Variety's Willa Paskin tells us the New York Film Critics Circle plans to announce its 2005 award winners Dec. 12. Think of it like your 71st annual early Christmas present, but with a tag signed, "With love, from Armond White," or, "Is that a lump of coal in your pocket or are you happy to see me? XOXO—Rex Reed." I know I always do. I mean, these are the real critical iconoclasts—the ones who want you to think of them as breaking ranks and bucking the Hollywood trend. Like when they awarded A Clockwork Orange best picture in 1971. Or when they skipped over Martin Scorsese for a best director prize for 1980's Raging Bull. OK, that last one maybe not so much. But at least they honored Jonathan Demme, right? Rebels! Anyhow, the Circle's awards ceremony is scheduled for Jan. 8, 2006. We will probably not be invited. Again.
