Matt Damon (Hearts) NY, De Niro, Scorsese, Secret Agent Movies...

Seriously, Marty, the next one will be right. I promise… Damon and Scorsese on the set of The Departed (Photo: Just Jared)

Well, look at that: We are barely into Thursday and The Reeler has fulfilled its Matt Damon news quota for the week, or perhaps for the year. You heard all about Damon's misbegotten Brothers Grimm nosebump here on Monday, and this morning has yielded another bonanza of nuggets a little more quasi-relative to New York.

Probably the biggest news is that Robert De Niro's directing effort The Good Shepherd starts filming this week in Gotham. The film features Damon as Edward Wilson, a son of privilege whose life changes with his involvement in the fledgling CIA of the 1940s. Angelina Jolie co-stars, assuring that the agency's early history will be portrayed in the sexiest way possible. Perhaps most notable is the roster rounding out the cast: William Hurt, John Turturro, Billy Crudup, Timothy Hutton and De Niro himself, among others. No guarantees, but this could be watchable.

Additionally, the nifty gossip blog Just Jared turned readers on to some fab shots of Damon in uniform for Martin Scorsese's upcoming cop drama The Departed. Production created a stir in Brooklyn this summer (although I think these shots might come from its Boston locations), with Damon starring alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Jack Nicholson as a gangster who infiltrates the Boston police department.

And I swear that is all I know or care to know about Matt Damon—at least until next week. Sigh.
