Rosario Dawson, California Girl

California-bound: Rosario Dawson and Jason Lewis (Not pictured: Two huge Ridgebacks and Isabel Dawson)

Just when you thought the HOWL! Festival made it safe to soak in the gritty cinematic glow of the East Village, here comes that squatter grinch (OK, all right, she is really sweet) Rosario Dawson to snuff New York's joy once again.

Or at least that is the way it feels. Only a few weeks after her mother Isabel defended the starlet's low-income tenement residency in the EV, Dawson tells New York Magazine's Logan Hill that her East Village days are behind her. Following her Shakespeare in the Park turn (and grand marshal duties at the Aug. 27 HOWL! parade), she is moving to Los Angeles with her boyfriend, actor Jason Lewis:

“I was always against that,” she says, almost apologetically, promising that she’ll visit regularly. “We have our two Ridgebacks together, and they’re big dogs. I can’t imagine having them in a tiny apartment.”

Still, like a suburbanite afraid of visiting the city, Dawson worries about safety.

“There’s no fire escape—so what do you do?” Dawson frets. “I’m used to being surrounded by people, above me, below me, next door. We’ll be alone. And we’re going to be on the first floor—I’ve never been on the first floor. What’s gonna keep people from just walking in?”

Wait, Rosario—you mean your mother is staying here?
