A Meditative David Lynch Takes Manhattan
OK, everybody, that is great. Now say, "Ommmm…": Transcendent, transcendental filmmaker David Lynch (Photo: AP) Just when you thought this year's Next Reel International Film Festival might be starting to wind down, here comes David Lynch to deliver not just one but two addresses tonight on “Filmmaking and Consciousness through Transcendental Meditation.” Yep. I do not know whether to pinch myself or wink skeptically from the receiving end of an elaborate joke: [Lynch's talk provides] a fascinating look at the relation between creativity, brain function, and the guiding role played by meditation, and an insider’s view into the creative process of one of the most highly regarded filmmakers today. Lynch will be accompanied by Dr. John Hagelin, a unified field physicist featured in the recent film WHAT THE BLEEP DO WE KNOW?, and Dr. Fred Travis, a neuroscientist. This talk is a collaboration with the David Lynch Foundation for Consciousness-Based Education and World Peace. Look, I am no moon-eyed hippie, but I would be more than happy to take a couple shots of whatever mysticism resurrected Lynch from the depths of Fire Walk With Me to the dizzying masterwork of Mulholland Drive. Count me in. But if you cannot make it tonight, look for Lynch tomorrow night at the Peninsula Hotel, where he will be equally meditative at a little steeper expense. But isn't he worth it, if only to sneak in a question about whatever happened to Ronnie Rocket and One Saliva Bubble? Posted by stvanairsdale on Sep 29, 2005 at 11:06AM |
