New York Film is Totally Gay! (For a Couple of Days, Anyhow)
(Photo: Holedigger Films) Could this be shaping up as the gayest week of the year in New York cinema? Both Craig Lucas' The Dying Gaul (right) and Joseph Lovett's Gay Sex in the 70s are slated for release Friday, with a pair of corresponding events for the latter film scheduled around town for tonight and tomorrow. Now, I cannot help you with much more of a description of Gay Sex in the 70s than its title conveniently provides. I can, however, direct you to tonight's 6:30 screening and discussion at Gay Men's Health Crisis on West 24th Street, as well as tomorrow's gathering at the Museum of Sex. Both events feature doctors from the NYC Department of Health, Columbia University and the Kinsey Institute, as well as Lovett and some of his film's subjects. For more about The Dying Gaul, check back with The Reeler Wednesday morning for a Centerpiece conversation with Lucas and stars Peter Sarsgaard and Patricia Clarkson. I cannot promise the 'mo madness that Gay Sex virtually guarantees, but as I will tell you tomorrow--you would have to be crazy to turn down a threesome like that.
