Early Sundance Picks Reveal New York Faves

Wells notes at least three Weinstein pictures that made the cut, including Jesse Peretz's Fast Track, Joby Harold's Awake and Kevin Smith's long-awaited-among-family-and-a-least-a-few-dozen-fanboys sequel The Passion of the Clerks. Steven Shainberg's Diane Arbus biopic Fur was shot entirely in New York, as were Bruce Leddy's Shut Up and Sing and the Brooklyn drama Brother's Shadow. Robert Downey Jr. co-produced and stars in A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, while Tilda Swinton did the same upstate for Hilary Brougher's "infanticide drama" Stephanie Daley. Most conspiculously, it looks as though John Cameron Mitchell's nonpros-fucking-by-the-East-River labor of love Shortbus is finally going to get its premiere as well. Please tell me how it is. On second thought, please do not. Anyway, the Sundance geniuses will release the full slate of 2006 films early next week, and if there are any more Earth-shattering New York revelations, rest assured I will bring them to you. Or maybe do not "rest," but just "check back." It is a long weekend, after all. UPDATE: So Jeff Wells had it a little, well, wrong. I would just delete this post altogether, but I cannot help but fantasize about everything that might have been. So I guess I am saying, "Accept my apology, but relish my sexy mistake." Or something.
