The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences animation/shorts branch has advanced 10 animated short films contend for contention for the 86th Academy Awards®. The Academy’s Short Films and Feature Animation Branch Reviewing Committee in New York and Los Angeles selected the ten from the fifty-six pictures that originally qualified in the category.

Members will now winnow the list of ten down to from three to five nominees at branch screenings to be held LA, NY and San Francisco in December. Per usual Walt Disney Feature Animation has one entry while the National Film Board of Canada boasts three. No Pixar short is in the mix this year. (Our look at the feature animation race is here.)
