In case you're tired of that old Cannes "Entourage" episode, director James Toback, who went to Cannes in 2008 for "Tyson," and Cannes rookie Alec Baldwin ("30 Rock") are shooting "Seduced and Abandoned" during this year's Cannes Fest. It's a fiction drama (not mockumentary) about producers trying to raise financing for a political drama. They've already shot at the Carlton and have interviews lined up with Martin Scorsese, Roman Polanski, Bernardo Bertolucci, Brad Pitt and Ryan Gosling, some of whom will be in Cannes, and gained permission to shoot at many glam events. ICM is selling North American rights.

Baldwin told THR.

"I thought let’s come here and let’s ask people a very simple construction which is: What was the movie business like before? What happened? And what is it like now in your lifetime?” Baldwin continued: “The movie business is the worst girlfriend in the world. You go back again and again and again. You go back with another chance to do something that you want to do in moviemaking or moviegoing. You are seduced and abandoned over and over again.”

Toback spoke to Deadline:

“The film idea was generated by conversations Alec and I have had over a long period of time and we decided we’d go to Cannes and shoot a record of our quest to find money to make a movie, which in effect is not a movie we’re definitely making, but rather one we will make in the future if we raise the money for it here,” Toback said. “This film is about that process, documenting the progress and the potential success or failure of the two of us in a picaresque attempt to obtain the financing of a movie we have a general idea about making.”

“We’re dead serious about the film we want to make,” he said. “Over the course of this movie, there will be a lot of fun and laughter in describing what the excitement of this place is like. In the case of Marty Scorsese already, we’ve gotten some fascinating views about films and we will add to that with more directors and some great actors. If we get the money, will make the second movie. If we don’t, we will have made a movie I will be thrilled to have made anyway. This is no prank.”
