Twilight Hype as Eclipse Opens and Breaking Dawn Breaks in Two

On the eve of Twilight: Eclipse's press junket this weekend and premiere June 24 at the 7000-seat Nokia Theater at the Los Angeles Film Festival, Summit Entertainment has stated the obvious: that the filming of the fourth book in Stephanie Meyer's Twilight series, Breaking Dawn, to be directed by Bill Condon, will be in two parts. The first film is set for November 18, 2011. The cast will return: Three leads Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, plus Billy Burke, Peter Facinelli, Elizabeth Reaser, Jackson Rathbone, Nikki Reed, Ashley Greene and Kellan Lutz. Series writer Melissa Rosenberg is writing it now with a fall shoot planned.

Finke is Back: on Deadline, MCN, Film Comment and Tilda

As HBO's Tilda goes into production--and the show's inspiration, Nikki Finke's Deadline Hollywood, keeps hyping every piece of news (TV reporter Nellie Andreeva is obsessed with the show)--Finke is back from neck surgery that has impaired her vocal chords. Meanwhile, exhausted Deadline New York blogger Mike Fleming is taking a much-needed vacation. But at least Finke's trademark bile has returned to the blog, inflaming David Poland, and likely not for the last time. But he's right to suggest that Hollywood players often use Finke to advance their agendas.

Bourne #4, Green Lantern Sequel, Monsterpocalypse and Inception Spot

In Development: - Bourne #4 is coming. Tony Gilroy is back in the saddle to write The Bourne Legacy as a sequel, not prequel, to the franchise starring Matt Damon as Jason Bourne, as well as a "Bourne Bible." The film is not based on the book The Bourne Legacy (written by Eric Van Lustbader, not original novelist Robert Ludlum, who died in 2001) and is set for release in 2012. Damon says he won't do it unless director Paul Greengrass returns (Greengrass directed Ultimatum and Supremacy, while Doug Liman directed the 2002 kick-off The Bourne Identity). [Anne Thompson: I'd like to see Gilroy--in many ways the series' true creator, and a crackerjack director himself (Michael Clayton, Duplicity)-- do the honors. Would Damon work with him? After he sees the script, maybe.]

Live New York Interviews Promo Love Ranch and Winter's Bone

The NYT is getting into the live pre-movie opening interview racket, something Apple iTunes has been doing for some time. This week, The NYT online will live-stream a webcast of NYT critic Janet Maslin's interview with Love Ranch star Helen Mirren (who won an Oscar for The Queen) and the film's director Taylor Hackford (Ray, The Devil's Advocate), her husband, on June 14th (6:30-8pm EST). Based on a true story about a couple who opened Las Vegas's first legal brothel, the film stars Mirren and Joe Pesci as Grace and Charlie Botempo. Although the New York City event is sold out, you can catch it on either LiveStream.com or Facebook. The trailer is on the jump, but be aware that it shows you the whole movie (a pet peeve).

Sony 3D Promos At-Home 3D: At Expense of Theater Experience?

"I refuse to say the sky is falling," declared Sony chairman Amy Pascal, when I asked her about the grim summer box office so far. She was observing the Sony 3D show-and-tell Wednesday on the Sony lot. Clearly, not only is the studio earmarking a number of 3D features for 2010 and beyond--including Resident Evil Afterlife in 2011 and Spider-Man 4 and Men in Black III for 2012 (Will Smith putting on his shades takes on a new meaning), but the entire corporation is moving aggressively into the 3D space both at home (PS3, 3D games, Bravia HD 3D televisions, Blu-Ray 3D devices) and in theaters (see videos below and Sony News).

Trailer Watch: Can You Handle the Dogtooth?

Dogtooth, included in indieWIRE's "Summer Preview: The 25 Must-See Films" and The Playlist's "2010 Anticipated: 30 Films We've Already Seen" is a do-not-miss film experience. But can you handle the intense, sexually transgressive, claustrophobic family drama? (There were many walkouts at the Palm Springs Film Festival.) Kino International has released a trailer for the 2009 Greek film, which wowed at festivals, to spark your interest (and churn your stomach).

Casting News: Bullock, Pike, Mikkelson and My Idiot Brother

On the casting front: - Post-Oscar, post-James and post-MTV kiss, Sandra Bullock may be committed to Most Wanted down the line, reports the LAT, but given that the script is still in development, CAA agent Kevin Huvane sent out a statement clarifying that Most Wanted is not the next film Bullock will do. She is considering several projects, but Huvane assures: "The next project that will follow her Oscar will be chosen carefully and with a great deal of thought."

Mark Lisanti Joins Yahoo! Entertainment Blogs, AOL is Hiring

Yahoo! has hired Movieline.com blogger Mark Lisanti as deputy editor of their new Entertainment Blogs. Lisanti, the founding editor of Gawker Media's Defamer, made the announcement in his blog: the Yahoo! blogs are "launching in the not-too-distant future" and Yahoo! is "continuing their recent pattern of hiring away every blogger they’ve taken a shine to." He will report to Entertainment Blogs editor Courtney Reimer (who moved to to Yahoo! from MTV earlier this year). Yahoo! has a hold on entertainment news, with more traffic than People, E!, Entertainment Weekly and Us Weekly combined.

If Chris Nolan's eagerly awaited Inception scores at the box office this July 18, it's partly because moviegoers are responding to something that they haven't seen before. Check out the new featurette with Nolan and Leonardo DiCaprio below.
