Oscar-Winner Bret McKenzie Talks Songwriting for 'The Muppets,' Red Carpet Video

Bret McKenzie might be best known for being one half of the Flight of the Conchords, a musical comedy group that became the subject of an eponymous HBO show, or perhaps for his turn as the elf Figwit in "Lord of the Rings." Now, though, he's the Oscar-winner for this year's Best Original Song.

As we come down to the wire, it appears to be a foregone conclusion that Oscar belongs to "The Artist" and "Hugo" in a strange alignment of early moviemaking nostalgia. But while "The Artist" will likely score the top three prizes for picture, director, and actor, "Hugo" seems destined to take most of the technical awards.

Now Playing: Oscar Season Films on Movies On Demand; From 'The Help' to 'Tree of Life'

Playing on cable near you: in cased you missed a few, Movies On Demand has plenty of Awards Season films available now. Martin Scorsese's "Hugo" premieres on MOD February 28 (as well as DVD), while "The Descendants" (on DVD March 13), "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" (March 20), "Tinker Tailer Soldier Spy" (March 20) and more are set for March. They'll join the list of films already playing, which include "Drive," "The Tree of Life," "Bridesmaids," "Hell and Back Again" and "Rise of the Planet of the Apes." Ultimate Oscar Talk: Why 'The Artist' and Streep Beat 'Hugo' and Davis

Well, it's over. Kris Tapley, Guy Lodge and I work over the results of the 84th Academy Awards. On Sunday, I was on the red carpet, backstage, at the Governor's Ball and the Weinsteins; Kris and I were both at the Spirit Awards lunch in Santa Monica on Saturday.
