'Girls' Recap 8: OCD and AA in an Episode That's All Over the Place

“It’s Back” works hard to juggle four different storylines. Two are successful, and two are cringe-inducingly out of left field.

Arthouse Audit: 'Stoker' Shows Initial Strength in Multi-City Opening

After months of films with mostly older-audience appeal playing off during the awards circus, Fox Searchlight's "Stoker," a stylish thriller from a noted Asian cult director making his English-language debut, boasted the best limited opening of any 2013 release so far. Weekend Box Office Top Ten: March Comes In Like a Lamb, 'Giant Slayer' Disappoints, 'Phantom' Disappears

Yet another down weekend: the top ten grossed 37% less than 2012's total, continuing a multi-week trend that is becoming a major problem. Grosses did climb a bit from last week, but the new films -- led by $200 million would-be tentpole "Jack the Giant Slayer" -- had much greater potential. None looks like it will enjoy any sort of sustained run, even if "Jack" slightly exceeded last-minute projections.

Cinemascope has published Dror Moreh's Oscar acceptance speech (which he didn't get to recite on stage because "Searching for Sugar Man" won over his doc "The Gatekeepers"). In the speech Moreh dedicates the Oscar to Israeli prime minister Itzhak Rabin, who was assassinated in 1995 by a right-wing Jew "because he dared to dream about peace."

Weekend Preview: 'War Witch' Bewitches, 'Stoker' a Mixed Bag, 'Jack the Giant' Not Slaying Critics

Immersed in Movies: Bryan Singer Talks 'Jack the Giant Slayer'

Bryan Singer getting kid-friendlier with "Jack the Giant Slayer" isn't as much of a stretch as you might think. He's still dabbling with truth and legend -- literally in this case -- only the fairy tale is more overt.
