SXSW: The Good, the Bad, and Top Ten Films at the 2014 Fest

I left this year's SXSW film festival with three takeaways: 1) Sundance programmed some really great titles back in January, many of which South By incorporated into their Festival Favorites category, 2) the Documentary Competition lineup was strong, and 3) the Narrative Competition lineup was not.

Richard Linklater to Be Feted at San Francisco International Film Festival

Richard Linklater is on a roll. Oscar-nominated earlier this year for the "Before Midnight" screenplay and currently traveling the festival circuit with his revered new film "Boyhood," the prolific writer/director will receive the prestigious Founder's Directing Award from the San Francisco International Film Festival, now in its 57th year.

SXSW Review: Vampires Get Real in Hilarious Mock Doc 'What We Do In the Shadows'

It’s hard out there for a vampire. Sunlight’s a (literal) pain, dining on human blood can get messy, and primping for a night out on the town is tricky when you can’t see your own reflection in a mirror. Aside from these supernatural hang-ups, Taikia Waititi and Jemaine Clement’s rollicking mockumentary “What We Do in the Shadows” shows us that bloodsuckers have more banal problems, too -- like getting along with roommates.
