Oscilloscope Founder and Beastie Boy Adam Yauch Dies of Cancer: David Fenkel to Stay On UPDATE

Adam Yauch, best-known as a member of the hip-hop group the Beastie Boys, has died at age 47, reports Rolling Stone. Yauch, also a founder of indie distribution label Oscilloscope Laboratories ("Wendy and Lucy," "We Need to Talk About Kevin") was diagnosed with cancer after discovering a salivary gland tumor in 2009.

Cannes 2012: Fortissimo Films Acquires Foreign Rights to Bollywood-Set 'Miss Lovely' (Video)

One of the many Weinstein films on parade at Cannes this year, John Hillcoat's "Lawless" (August 31), started out its life in development with husband-and-wife producers Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher's Red Wagon shingle at Sony. They brought in Hillcoat and Nick Cave, who wrote Hillcoat's Aussie western "The Proposition."

Cannes Watch: Special Screening of Bernard-Henri Levy's 'Le Serment de Tobrouk' ('The Oath of Tobruk')

On Friday, May 25, the Cannes Film Festival will present a special screening of one of their Official Selection films, Bernard-Henri Lévy’s "Le Serment de Tobrouk" or "The Oath of Tobruk." French philosopher Bernard-Henri Lévy created the film during the eight-month conflict in Libya that put an end to the dictatorship of Muammar Gaddafi.
