Weekend Preview: 'Iron Man 3' a Smart Superhero Flick; Critics Applaud 'What Maisie Knew' and 'Something in the Air,' Mixed on 'Post Tenebras Lux'

This weekend, the latest installment of "Iron Man" soars through multiplexes after racking up more than $300 million overseas. Could it score a $150 million opening, or beat 2012's number one movie, "The Avengers"' $1.5 billion total worldwide gross? It is a Marvel sequel, after all.

Steven Spielberg Picks Next Project Starring Bradley Cooper

I keep hoping that Spielberg will push forward with biopic “Gershwin" with Zachary Quinto in the lead role. But Spielberg has chosen his post-"Lincoln" directing gig, and it's not the postponed "Robapocalypse." He's going to Warner Bros. to do “American Sniper” starring Bradley Cooper.

CinemaCon Panel Decries Hollywood's Underserving Women, Chasing Young Males

At CinemaCon, The Hollywood Reporter editorial director Janice Min assembled and moderated a terrific panel, "Driving Financial Success: Women + Movies = Bigger Box Office," including Geena Davis, who runs the influential Institute on Gender and Media, director Paul Feig ("Bridesmaids," "The Heat"), Nina Jacobson ("The Hunger Games"), Amy Miles (CEO Regal Entertainment Group), and Vanessa Morrison (President, Fox Animation Studios), addressing the myriad issues women have with Hollywood, both behind and in front of the camera, including why the media likes to hate Anne Hathaway and Gwyneth Paltrow so much.

2013 Student Academy Awards Finalists Announced

38 students from US colleges and nine from foreign universities have been selected as finalists in AMPAS' Student Academy Awards Competition. Winners will be brought to LA for industry activities and workshops in anticipation of the awards ceremony on June 8 at the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater.
