Telluride Film Festival, Diary One: Big Anticipation for the 40th Anniversary

I look forward to the one-two punch of my favorite fall film festivals (say that five times fast), Telluride and Toronto, all year long, but this year I feel woefully unprepared for the two orgies. Telluride, a cinephile's dream, haven for the film obsessive, an overstuffed four-day weekend designed to be shorter and more focused than the ten-day or longer omnibus festivals, but this year a whole day longer in celebration of its 40th anniversary.

LACMA and Academy to Present Major Exhibition on Mexican Cinematographer Gabriel Figueroa (CLIPS)

Beginning September 22 and running through February of 2014, LACMA will host "Under the Mexican Sky," an exhibition co-presented by AMPAS highlighting the prolific career of award-winning Mexican cinematographer Gabriel Figueroa. His career spanned 50 years and over 200 films; auteurs John Ford, Luis Bunuel and John Huston sought him out.

Director Mark Cousins Talks 15-Part Epic Series 'The Story of Film,' Coming to TCM September 2

With Mark Cousins bringing his new film, "A Story of Children and Film," to Telluride this weekend, it's perfect timing that on Monday, September 2, TCM presents the first of fifteen episodes of Cousins' epic 2011 documentary, "The Story of Film: An Odyssey," along with 100 films featured in the series.

Universal Sets 2014 Release Date for James Brown Biopic 'Get On Up,' Starring Chadwick Boseman UPDATED

UPDATE: Universal has set an Oscar-friendly 2014 release date for its James Brown biopic, now titled "Get On Up," starring Chadwick Boseman ("42"). It will hit theaters on October 17 of next year.

Janus Films Nabs Paolo Sorrentino's Palme d'Or Nominee 'The Great Beauty' (TRAILER)
