Helen Mirren will be The Queen again, but this time on stage in "The Audience," a new play by Peter Morgan focusing on Queen Elizabeth II's relationship with the 12 different prime ministers who serve during her epic reign. Mirren's top-notch career doesn't seem to be flagging a bit, with news yesterday that "Hitchcock," in which she stars as Hitch's wife and discerning collaborator Alma Reville, will be an Oscar contender.

Fantastic Fest Review: With ‘Frankenweenie,' Tim Burton Revives Pet Project, Returns to Form

"Frankenweenie" is probably Tim Burton’s best film in almost a decade, but that’s not much of a compliment. With his last five films, the filmmaker responsible for some of the most fun, mischievous and magical cinema of the past 25 years has settled into a disappointing routine of utterly safe “weirdness.”

Netflix's Ted Sarandos Talks Original Programming

It is not news that chief content officer of Netflix Ted Sarandos is on the hunt for original programming for the content site, competing for content with the likes of HBO snd Showtime. That's why the DVD rental site, which has been making the transition to online streaming, chased down David Fincher's high-price series starring Kevin Spacey based on the British series "House of Cards."

Brian De Palma Q & A: 'Passion,' McAdams vs. Rapace, Sex Tools UPDATED

While Brian De Palma is best-known for directing sexually-tinged Hitchcockian thrillers such as "Dressed to Kill," "Body Double," and "Obsession," my two fave De Palmas are Stephen King's "Carrie," which is being remade with his blessing by pal Kimberly Pierce, and "Blow Out," starring John Travolta. While De Palma has scored as a studio technician with a strong sense of style--and bravura camera moves-- in such movies as the original "Mission Impossible," "Snake Eyes," "Carlito's Way," "Scarface" and "The Untouchables," the filmmaker started as an indie in the 1970s and is back in the indie world with European-financed thrillers such as "Black Dahlia" and "Passion," which recently played Venice, Toronto and completes the fest trifecta in New York. The Toronto screening of the film was packed with buyers; no announcement of a sale has been made as yet.
