Entertainment Weekly Posts Their Best and Worst of 2012

Entertainment Weekly examines the trends, triumphs, and disasters of 2012 in a year-end double issue. Best films from critics Owen Gleiberman and Lisa Schwarzbaum start with "Lincoln" and "Zero Dark Thirty," respectively, followed by "Zero Dark Thirty," "Amour," and "Silver Linings Playbook." Spielberg and Daniel Day-Lewis Present 'Lincoln' Screening for the US Senate

The United States Senate took a break from their law making (or stalling) to watch how it was done in the old days. Steven Spielberg and his star, Daniel Day-Lewis, attended a screening of "Lincoln" at the Capitol Visitors Center yesterday. Spielberg said that he was honored to see Senators from ”both sides sitting in the same room watching a president put the people out in front of the abyss.”

'Dark Knight Rises' is YouTube's Most Viewed Movie Trailer of the Year; Top Ten Most-Watched Videos

Google reports that the most viewed trailer of the year was from a video game: Activision's "Call of Duty Black Ops 2." On the movie side, the most viewed movie trailer was Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises." Seth MacFarlane's "Ted," "Hunger Games," and "Skyfall" were also in the mix. Only one television show was a factor: NBC and J.J. Abrams' "Revolution." YouTube calculated both number of views, the length of time people watched the clip, and how many people sought out the clip (searching rather than clicking on an ad). Here's their Top Ten:

City of New York Invests in Brooklyn College Graduate School of Cinema, Opening Fall 2014

Brooklyn College and the Mayor’s Office of Media & Entertainment announces that the City of New York is investing in the Brooklyn College Graduate School of Cinema, due to welcome its first students Fall 2014. It will make the announcement formally at this evening's Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce Winter Gala.

Sundance Film Festival Reveals 2013 Jury Members, Including Ex-Fox Chairman Tom Rothman, Filmmaker Ed Burns

The Sundance Institute has revealed 19 members of five juries awarding prizes at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, January 17-27 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah. The Short Film Awards will be presented on January 22 at Park City’s Jupiter Bowl, while the feature film awards will be given out at a ceremony on January 26. Returning to his indie roots is ex-Fox chairman Tom Rothman, who joins Edward Burns on the dramatic jury. Rothman discovered the indie writer-actor-director at Sundance 1995 with "The Brothers McMullen."
