Cannes: Paramount Screens Super 8 and Puss In Boots Footage, Kung Fu Panda 2

Paramount's marketing co-chief Megan Colligan has been mulling taking advantage of the world press in attendance at Cannes for a sneak peak at J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg's Super 8. Now the studio has invited press to see 40 minutes of footage on Thursday, UPDATE: but it turns out that it's the same 20 minutes they showed to key press in New York and at the CinemaCon exhibitor convention in Las Vegas. Get your facts together people.

The movie opens June 10 and has built exceptional advance buzz.

Honoring past Jeffrey Katzenberg tradition, Paramount screened DreamWorks' Animation's Kung Fu Panda 2 Tuesday night, one of three screenings this week leading up to a Thursday Carlton Hotel press conference that the world press will tumble over themselves to cover --with Croisette regular Angelina Jolie, Jack Black and Dustin Hoffman.

Paramount is also screening footage from DreamWorks' Shrek spin-off Puss In Boots, accompanied by a Q & A with Salma Hayek and Antonio Banderas, also in town for Pedro Almodovar'sThe Skin I Live In, which just locked a final print in the nick of time for Cannes. The festival invited the film off a rough cut. Sony Pictures Classics will release stateside.

In other studio news, Twentieth Century Fox has named Rebecca Kearey as executive vice president, International Marketing and Distribution. She had been senior vice president, Fox Searchlight International; she'll continue to run international marketing and distribution for Searchlight as well as Fox International Productions.
