Jasmine Madatian

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is bringing in publicity veteran Jasmine Madatian to replace Leslie Unger, who oversaw the massive media coverage of the Oscars until her resignation last November. What you need in that job is a powerfully organized and experienced traffic cop. Madatian is just that--during her stints in publicity and promotion at Disney, Paramount and Fox she was always a fiercely controlling, detail-oriented publicist, the kind of person who inspires both fear and respect.

New Academy CEO Dawn Hudson, as she changes this hide-bound institution, has let go of many people with much institutional memory--including Unger. Hudson is also adding more bodies to the communications department. One-time New Line exec Christina Kounelias, the Academy's Chief Marketing Officer, brought in Madatian as Managing Director, Communications:

Madatian will oversee all of the Academy's publicity and corporate communications campaigns, including the Academy Awards®, as well as outreach for the organization's year-round programming, education, preservation and other key initiatives.

She will start July 30 after finishing up the "Safety Not Guaranteed" campaign for FilmDistrict.
