The Academy will host a beautiful (and free) exhibition of original Cuban movie posters - 125 hand-silkscreened - from May 13 - August 28 in their Grand Lobby Gallery. Titled "Cuban Film Posters: From Havana to the World,” the exhibition will include posters from A Clockwork Orange, The Shining, The Bicycle Thief, Z, Strawberry and Chocolate and Fallen Gods. The works were created by artists in the Instituto Cubano de Arte e Industria Cinematograficos (ICAIC), which was formed after the 1959 revolution, and donated to the Academy's Margaret Herrick Library.

In conjunction with the exhibition, the Academy and the Los Angeles Film Festival will showcase "A Celebration of Cuban Film" on June 22 at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater. Strawberry and Chocolate (the only Cuban film to be nominated for a Best Foreign Film Oscar) will screen along with other feature film clips and a panel discussion with Cuban directors.

More on the ICAIC and the Celebration is below.

The ICAIC promotes the medium of film through a range of diverse activities, including film and television production.  Each year the organization also presents throughout Cuba numerous screenings of locally produced and international films, and for each film a unique poster is created by a Cuban graphic artist.  These posters are then widely distributed across the country, underscoring the important role that cinema and the visual arts play in contemporary Cuban life.

The Academy’s Grand Lobby Gallery, located at 8949 Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills, is open Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and weekends, noon to 6 p.m.  The gallery will be closed for the Memorial Day (May 28 and 29) and Independence Day (July 2 and 3) holiday weekends.

Tickets to “A Celebration of Cuban Film” will be on sale beginning on Wednesday, June 1.  Tickets are $5 for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid ID.  Tickets may be purchased online at www.oscars.org, at the Academy box office (8949 Wilshire Boulevard, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.), or by mail.  The Samuel Goldwyn Theater is located at the 8949 Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills.

For more information call (310) 247-3600 or visit www.oscars.org.
