I like meeting actors for the first time, when their careers are starting to take off, before they've erected that protective coating that movie stars often need to survive. I was curious to check out Andrea Riseborough, especially, because she's one of those actresses--much like Meryl Streep-- who vanishes into every role. She's a chameleon, utterly unrecognizable from one movie to the next. She explains why in our flip cam interview below.

Andrea Riseborough is a chameleon actress who makes her mark in everything she does, from Madonna's "W.E." as fashionplate Wallis Simpson and Tom Cruise's seductive housemate/overseer in "Oblivion" to terrorist in James Marsh's elegantly crafted IRA thriller "Shadow Dancer," which played the Sundance Fest in January. The movie is available now on iTunes and On Demand and hits theaters May 31.

Awards

At the 15th British Independent Film Awards, the big winners of the night were "Berberian Sound Studio" with four awards, including Best Director for Peter Strickland and Best Actor for Toby Jones, and Bart Layton's phenomenal "The Imposter," which took home prizes for Best British Documentary and the Douglas Hickox Award for Best British Debut. With prizes selected by a jury, there was a fairly even distribution amongst the main contenders.

Awards

The nominations for the 15th annual Moët British Independent Film Awards were announced today and leading the pack with nine nominations is "Broken," which scored nods for Best Film, Best Director and Best Debut Director for Rufus Norris, Best Actor for Tim Roth and two Best Supporting Actor nominations for Cillian Murphy and Rory Kinnear.
