Trailer Watch: Sun-Soaked Love in Terrence Malick's 'To The Wonder'

Terrence Malick's "To The Wonder" was not received with the same enthusiasm as "The Tree of Life," but as usual it has its lovers and haters -- this is to be expected with the auteur's uncompromising work. "To The Wonder," which premiered at Venice and Toronto earlier this year and stars Ben Affleck, Olga Kurylenko, Rachel McAdams and Javier Bardem, will be released stateside April 12 by Magnolia Pictures. Take a look at the trailer below, which echos themes from "Tree of Life" in a more romantic context. It features the trademark sun-soaked imagery from Malick's go-to cinematographer, Emmanuel Lubezki.

Oscar Watch: Why Affleck's 'Argo' Hits the Zeitgeist, Early Reviews

Ben Affleck has another hit due to arrive in theaters October 12. But "Argo," his third feature as director, will be even more commercially successful than 2007's "Gone Baby Gone" and 2012's "The Town," which earned Jeremy Renner a supporting actor nomination. That's because while Affleck understood that the film is timely--unrest in the Middle East has not dissipated since the true 1980 events depicted here--he could not have known that a mob assault on a U.S. consulate would make news headlines just as his film made its Toronto debut.

Now and Then: On Film, America's Culture of Violence

The most terrifying 80 minutes I've spent in my career as a film critic were those spent watching "Elephant," in which even the rhythmic click-click-click of photographic negatives being shaken in chemicals brought me the edge of what I can bear.
