Toronto Preview: Awards Hopefuls Bring Real Figures to Life, from Dickens and Assange to Ginsberg and Mandela

There's a reason Sony Pictures Classics is moving up the release date of "The Invisible Woman" to Christmas Day. They think they may have the goods to make a go at an awards season play. This Ralph Fiennes-directed movie is world premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival, one of many pictures with Oscar hopes that centers around bringing a real person to life.

‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ Preview Report: Producer Bryan Burk Talks Promo Tour, Franchise Future

Friday in London, Paramount Pictures screened an extended look at "Star Trek Into Darkness" at the BFI IMAX cinema, introduced by producer Bryan Burk and including the opening 28 minutes of the film plus two other extended sequences. What they showed of J.J. Abrams’ belated sequel, which arrives four years after he rebooted the franchise with 2009’s "Star Trek," was thrilling stuff, even if you don’t count yourself a colossal (or even casual) Trekkie. That, as Burk explained in his intro to the footage, has always been their primary goal with this sequel: to make a film that appeals across the board.

HBO to Premiere 'Parade's End' Miniseries This February, Starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Rebecca Hall

UK five-part mini series "Parade's End," adapted from Ford Madox Ford's novels, will premiere on February 26-28. Benedict Cumberbatch, Rebecca Hall and Adelaide Clemens star and are directed by Susanna White. Tom Stoppard penned the drama, set in early 20th century Edwardian England.
