'Guardians of the Galaxy''s Groot Deserves Best Animated Character of the Year Award

One of the best animated characters ever--even better than the fabulous Andy Serkis's groundbreaking work with Weta Digital in everything from Gollum and King Kong to Caesar--is Groot in "Guardians of the Galaxy" (August 1). One reason: thanks to motion capture, you can feel the actor behind the animation--it's in the eyes. It's not just Vin Diesel's delivery of the phrase, "I am Groot," which provides comic relief.

Cameron Crowe's Next Slated Not for Fall, but Summer 2015

Now that Columbia Pictures and Regency Enterprises have screened writer-director Cameron Crowe's still-untitled return to original filmmaking, they're scheduling it for May 29, 2015. That suggests that they did not consider the comedy --which stars Bradley Cooper as a military contractor who reconnects with former love Rachel McAdams when he returns to the US Space program in Hawaii-- to be fall awards material.

David O. Russell Talks 'American Hustle' in Dubai, Redemption, Scorsese and Embracing "Muscular" Cinema

Is there a filmmaker of recent times who's enjoyed a more impressive career rebound than David O. Russell? Before "The Fighter" in 2010, Russell's career was in tatters, and in danger of flatlining for good. But that shrewd blend of "Rocky"-style boxing saga and family psychodrama marked a magnificent return to form, and was duly recognized with seven Oscar nominations. "Silver Linings Playbook" won Jennifer Lawrence her Oscar. Now "American Hustle" is in the mix. Russell talks about his career redemption.

Q & A: Director Cianfrance Talks 'The Place Beyond the Pines,' Gosling and Cooper, Long Takes and 'Psycho'

If you missed Derek Cianfrance's "The Place Beyond the Pines" in theaters, it's worth grabbing as it hits DVD and Blu-Ray, because it's one of the best movies to come out so far this year. Will it wind up in the awards conversation? Focus Features is going to push the intense R-rated drama, which grossed a respectable $21.4 million domestically, but it will need critics to back the film and its performances at year's end, which they might.

The first trailer for David O. Russell's "American Hustle" has landed. Starring a knockout cast including Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner and Jennifer Lawrence, the film centers on the true story of the '70s ABSCAM operation where a con man (Bale) and his mistress (Adams) team up with a loose-cannon federal agent (Cooper) to, well, scam the scammers. Watch below, plus new images from the film.

Bradley Cooper Is New Model Smart Star

As "Silver Linings Playbook" comes out on DVD, which earned Bradley Cooper his first best actor Oscar nomination, well-reviewed "Place Beyond the Pines" is playing around the country, "The Hangover Part III" hits theaters on May 24, and Steven Spielberg has picked as his next movie "American Sniper," which was developed by Cooper's Warner Bros. production company, about Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, an ace sniper who was tragically killed. This actor is clearly doing something right.

Steven Spielberg Picks Next Project Starring Bradley Cooper

I keep hoping that Spielberg will push forward with biopic “Gershwin" with Zachary Quinto in the lead role. But Spielberg has chosen his post-"Lincoln" directing gig, and it's not the postponed "Robapocalypse." He's going to Warner Bros. to do “American Sniper” starring Bradley Cooper.
