We all know Hollywood ignores the female audience, because half of the moviegoing public supposedly can't be counted on to show up in vast numbers on opening weekends. But the male bias also exists on the media side: check out EW's May 17 forecast of the top ten box office movies of the summer.

Cannes Deal: Weinstein Co. Nabs Todd Haynes' 'Carol,' Starring Cate Blanchett and Mia Wasikowska

In one of their final deals at Cannes, the Weinstein Company has snapped up US rights to "Carol," set to be directed by Todd Haynes (HBO's "Mildred Pierce") and starring Cate Blanchett and Mia Wasikowska. The film is a new adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's novella of the same title.

It's clear that working with Wes Anderson has had a strong influence on Coppola's second feature. - Jon Hamm is considering starring in "Epic Fail," a Kevin Costello written comedy about a high school teacher who attempts to fake some heroism by hiring two of his students to stage a kidnapping of his wife.

Blanchett Heads Dubai Fest Filmmaker Award Jury; Awards $100K to Arabian Peninsula Filmmaker Projects

Cate Blanchett will head the jury for the IWC Shaffhausen International Filmmaker Award at the Dubai International Film Festival (December 9-16). The shortlist for the award includes four feature-length projects from established or up-and-coming filmmakers in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman and Bahrain.

IN THE WORKS: 'Blade Runner' Sequel, Blanchett-Wasikowska Lesbian Romance, Paltrow for Picasso & Dujardin's Next

Ridley Scott has an idea for a sequel to his classic 1982 film "Blade Runner," and the original's writer Hampton Fancher is in talks to put it into action on paper. Scott and Alcon Entertainment say only that the story would pick up "some years after the first film concluded."
