Paul Feig is one cool guy. The director of hits "The Heat" and "Bridesmaids" recently spoke with Cinema Blend, revealing that he's working on a gay romantic comedy with Channing Tatum attached to star. UPDATE: Not so fast, counters Vulture. Tatum was just pie-in-the-sky casting.

Sony Pictures Classics Books Bennett Miller's 'Foxcatcher' for Holidays

Word was that Sony Pictures Classics was releasing "Foxcatcher," Bennett Miller's follow-up to Sony/Columbia's Best Picture nominee "Moneyball," and so it turns out to be. SPC will open the film for Oscar consideration on December 20. Sony's Columbia Pictures co-financed the film with Annapurna Pictures' Megan Ellison ("Zero Dark Thirty"), who produced the film with Anthony Bregman ("Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind").

'Monsters University' and 'The Heat' Battle for Top Spot at Lagging Summer Box Office

The release calendar is crowded, and Friday's numbers show that the intense competition for the top films is not expanding the marketplace. The end result is not the box office bonanza many have been predicting. In fact, the total numbers for the top 10 yesterday fell just under 20% from the same Friday last year. This means that a blockbuster summer is less likely than ever to salvage a weak year. And this is at a time when multiple releases are burdened with unforgiving production budgets exceeding $150 million--and more.

'White House Down' Review and Roundup: Tatum Hits, Emmerich Misses

True confession. Always full of mischief and mayhem, Roland Emmerich movies are guilty pleasures for me. An admittedly cheesy entertainer who aims squarely for the mainstream, the German maestro stages action with flair and delivers superior visual effects--big, small, live-action and digital. When he connects--as he did with old-style effects adventure "Independence Day" (1996) and the weather-gone-amok disaster epic "The Day After Tomorrow" (which seems to be coming true), he makes multitudes of moviegoers very happy. Even "2012" was an enjoyable E-ride if you threw any real-world logic out the window.

'Side Effects': Soderbergh Q & A and Review Roundup [VIDEO]

As "Side Effects" co-stars Channing Tatum and Catherine Zeta-Jones were no-shows at Wednesday night’s group Q & A for the twisty new Steven Soderbergh thriller "Side Effects" (February 7), the filmmaker himself was the star of the night. Soderbergh charmed his post-screening audience at Lincoln Center’s Walter Reade Theater as thoroughly as he did the entire internet earlier this week in his conversation with Mary Kate Schilling for Vulture.
