Everyone in Hollywood reads the industry tea leaves, the probable truth behind every announcement and its attendant spin. As the awards season takes shape, three major releases are jockeying for position: "Gone Girl," "Inherent Vice" and "Birdman." The Hollywood studios, indie distributors, Oscar campaigners and strategists were pushing the New York Film Festival (September 26 - October 12) for their awards hopefuls, wanting to land a coveted gala slot.

Wes Anderson's Sprawling Period Pic 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' Goes to Fox Searchlight (PRADA VIDEO)

Wes Andersdon's eagerly awaited next film, "The Grand Budapest Hotel," which just wrapped principal photography at Studio Babelsberg in Germany, has been snapped up not by his last distributor, Focus Features, which released "Moonrise Kingdom" to good numbers and a writing Oscar nomination for Anderson and co-writer Roman Coppola (who have a perfume commercial making the rounds, see below) but by Fox Searchlight.

And the Award for Best 'Words with Friends' Celebrity Player Goes to Edward Norton

Edward Norton has nabbed the title as winner of the first-ever "Words with Friends" Celebrity Challenge, defeating Kristen Bell and Sophia Bush on his way to word domination and winning more than $132K for his charity, the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust. "Anyone who knows me know I love words," Norton quipped. That's probably a good thing, given all the secret-service mumbo jumbo he needed to spew in the last "Bourne" movie.
