Jennifer Lawrence to Receive Outstanding Performer of the Year Award at Santa Barbara International Film Fest

The 28th Santa Barbara International Film Festival (January 24 - February 3) will honor Jennifer Lawrence with its Outstanding Performer of the Year Award on February 2. Weinstein Co. Is Smart to Move Up 'Silver Linings Playbook'

Harvey Weinstein is moving up the release of the much-buzzed about comedy "SIlver Linings PLaybook" by one week, opening on November 16 in ten key cities such as NY and LA, to generate some box office momentum before the final awards push in December and January.

Lionsgate Likes Francis Lawrence; He'll Direct Two 'Hunger Games' Sequels After 'Catching Fire'

Lionsgate likes the way that director Francis Lawrence has extended, in "Catching Fire" (November 22, 2013), the world Gary Ross created in the first installment of "Hunger Games." The studio has hired Lawrence ("Water for Elephants") to helm the two concluding films in Susanne Collins' Katniss Everdeen series as well, "Mockingjay" Part 1 (November 21, 2014) and Part 2 (November 20, 2015).

'Silver Linings Playbook' to Open Film Independent Forum

As part of Weinstein Co.'s ongoing push for David O. Russell's "Silver Linings Playbook," currently at the top of many Oscar pundit's charts in the race for Best Picture, the edgy comedy will launch this year's Film Independent Forum to be held October 19-21 at the Directors Guild of America.

Jennifer Lawrence Talks 'Silver Linings Playbook,' Russell, 'Hunger Games' and Prepping for that Money Scene (EXCLUSIVE VIDEO)

As soon as "Silver Linings Playbook" played in Toronto it became the front runner for the Oscar. This is something its Oscar handlers were seeking to avoid, but the film then went on to win the coveted TIFF audience award nabbed by such past crowd-pleasers as Oscar-winner "Slumdog Millionaire." Yes, "Argo" and "Amour" and "The Sessions" and the Weinsteins' other TIFF entries "The Master" and "Quartet" are also in the Oscar hunt. But right now it's "The Silver Linings Playbook"'s to lose.
