WATCH: Marion Cotillard and Jeremy Renner in First Clip from James Gray's Cannes Competitor 'The Immigrant' (VIDEO)

Check out this first brief clip from James Gray's Cannes competition title "The Immigrant," starring Marion Cotillard, Joaquin Phoenix and Jeremy Renner, which centers on a woman's turbulent immigration from her native Poland to New York City. In the clip, Renner's character offers some advice to Cotillard's troubled Ewa, who is bedecked in a 1920s embellished headband and frock.

Weekend Box Office Analysis: 'Bourne Legacy' Bumps 'Dark Knight Rises,' Streep's 'Hope Springs' Shows Legs

As the Olympics head to a close, overall weekend grosses show signs of life, and better yet, are spread over several films with different core audiences. All three new films performed well, with “Hope Springs” likely to have the best hold down the line. “The Dark Knight Rises” fell two places to third, but the biggest drop went to “Total Recall,” after a tepid opening weekend, making its second-week fall-off even more disappointing.

Weekend Preview: 'Bourne' Without 'Bourne' And the Latest from Streep, Delpy, Ferrell & Spike Lee

Everything's coming up Fresh this weekend, so it just comes down to taste. If you're in the mood for "Bourne" without Jason Bourne, Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz do a fine job (and have the longest motorcycle chase sequence ever) in "narrative architect" Tony Gilroy's "The Bourne Legacy" (Edward Norton is also worth seeing). By the end of the film, you wish for a sequel that unites Renner's Aaron Cross with Damon's Jason Bourne; otherwise the whole enterprise seems pointless.

Review: Gilroy's 'The Bourne Legacy' Delivers, Thanks to Renner

I was looking forward to "The Bourne Legacy" more than most studio sequels that have lost their signature director and star. That's because Universal turned to writer-director Tony Gilroy to reinvent the "Bourne" franchise without Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon, who became a movie star playing the title character originated by Robert Ludlum.

'Bourne Legacy' Featurette Helps Legitimize Franchise Continuation without Damon; Gilroy Talks

A featurette has landed to essentially help explain how "The Bourne Legacy" can exist sans Matt Damon. In the nearly 3-minute video (below) writer-director Tony Gilroy explains that with "Legacy," they "wanted to create a larger conspiracy. The Treadstone program you saw [in the first three films], was only one program."

Trailer Watch: 'Bourne Legacy' Plot Thickens with Renner as Aaron Cross

You hear Jason Bourne's name a lot in the new trailer for "The Bourne Legacy," but make no mistake, "Bourne" was just the beginning and Aaron Cross -- our man Jeremy Renner -- is also an emotionally unavailable badass assassin.

'The Avengers': Who Comes Out Ahead? Everyone. Almost.

When I finally saw "Marvel's The Avengers" Sunday in murky 3-D at Loew's 83rd Street Cinema in Manhattan, like everyone else in the theater, I had a roaring good time.
