Arthouse Audit: 'Restrepo' Sequel 'Korengal' Tops Specialty Box Office; Kelly Reichardt's 'Night Moves' Takes Second

An eclectic group of new releases failed to provide any films with more than niche potential in upcoming weeks. The standout is "Korengal" (Saboteur), a sequel of sorts to the Oscar-nominated documentary feature "Restrepo," which had a New York opening in the range of its predecessor. "Night Moves" (Cinedigm), the latest film from indie auteur Kelly Reichardt, had a decent if not spectacular two-theater bicoastal start.

This Weekend, Why 'Die in the West' When You Can Head to 'Night Moves' and 'Maleficent'? (TRAILERS)

Though critics are pooh-poohing the tawdry, toilet-humor antics of Seth MacFarlane's "Million Ways to Die in the West," Angelina Jolie in "Maleficent" promises to be a fun family time-suck, while the weekend's indies offer something more to chew on.

Review: Kelly Reichardt's Eco Suspense Thriller 'Night Moves'

Three radical environmentalists blow up a hydro-electric dam in Oregon, and then face the consequences of their extreme actions in Kelly Reichardt's meditative, observational suspense-drama. Already beloved by many for her minimalist chronicles of American malaise "Wendy and Lucy" and "Meek's Cutoff," Reichardt's fifth feature is strongest in its set-up before becoming a tad perplexing and taking a baffling wrong turn at its inconclusive ending.

Review: Richard Ayoade's 'The Double' Is All Style But Oh What a Style It Is

Jesse Eisenberg in "The Double"
With "The Double," which premiered at TIFF last year and just screened at the Riviera Maya Film Festival, English writer/director and sometimes-comedian Richard Ayoade establishes himself as more than just the Wes Anderson acolyte we first met with his quirky 2010 directorial debut feature "Submarine."

New Cast Join Affleck, Cavill in Superman/Batman Flick

Director Zack Snyder has added Oscar-winning character actress Holly Hunter to the cast of the still untitled Superman/Batman movie that Warner Bros. has wisely pushed back to May 6, 2016. He has also cast muscled action players Callan Mulvey ("300: Rise of an Empire") and Tao Okamoto ("The Wolverine"). Departing from the established DC canon (something Marvel rarely does), all three actors will play characters newly created for the film.

Will Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor in 'Batman vs. Superman' Invigorate the Franchise?

I have no problem with this morning's news that Jesse Eisenberg is set to play Lex Luthor in Zack Snyder's "Batman vs. Superman," and Jeremy Irons will take over fellow senior Brit Michael Caine's role as Bat butler Alfred. At least--as the vociferous Twitter reaction indicates--Eisenberg represents a change-up in the next "Superman" movie.

'Now You See Me' Star Jesse Eisenberg vs. Romina Puga: "You are the Carrot Top of interviewers" (VIDEO)

Jesse Eisenberg joins the long list of movie stars who snap under the tedium of back-to-back junket interviews. For whatever reason (if it worked for Mila Kunis?), he decides to give Romina Puga a hard time; the interview is edited, so we don't know what other stuff she left out. But fair to say this gave me the biggest laugh I've had in a while.
