Showtime Renews Emmy-Nominated 'Masters of Sex' and 'Ray Donovan' for Third Seasons

My favorite summer TV series is "Masters of Sex," which has deepened its exploration of male-female relationship dynamics in its second season. So I'm delighted to report that Showtime has renewed the hourlong series about the work and life of the famous sex research couple Masters and Johnson for a third season, along with hardboiled drime series "Ray Donovan," starring Liev Schreiber and Jon Voight.

With Emmy Award season in full swing (the show airs Aug. 25), we look at three Emmy nominees who came up in Hollywood and are enjoying a career boost from their work in television. These days it's possible to move more fluidly than ever before between movies and TV (the late great James Garner was a rare example of a star who could swing both ways). The Third Golden Age of Television --easily viewed on multi-platforms by a wide range of viewers--has proved a boon for these movie actors.

'Ray Donovan': The Next Big Thing? Debuts to Record Ratings

The terrific new series "Ray Donovan" is premiering on Showtime Sunday night -- and you should be watching it rather than reading this. If the show fulfills the promise of its pilot episode it could turn out to be one of the great ones, an ideal anecdote for those of us who expect to be suffering from "Breaking Bad" withdrawal in a few months.
