AFM UPDATE: Winterbottom's Drama Based on Amanda Knox Case, 'Face of an Angel,' Heads Into Production, Stars Beckinsale

UPDATE: More news coming in from AFM. Production is set to begin next week on Michael Winterbottom's "The Face of an Angel," starring Kate Beckinsale, Daniel Bruhl ("Rush") and Cara Delevingne ("Kids in Love"). Adapted and fictionalized from Barbie Latza Nadeau's bestseller "Angel Face," on the Amanda Knox case, the film centers on the murder of a Brit student in Tuscany, and the ensuing trial and conviction of her American roommate and Italian boyfriend.

'Bad Grandpa' Pulls Young Males, 'Counselor' Flops, '12 Years' Makes Top Ten, NC-17 'Blue' Starts Strong

Who knew? All it took to bring back the core males MIA from theaters was a film about an 86-year-old. Paramount's "Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa" opened to an easy #1 Friday with $12.6 million (including Thursday late shows). Maybe Emmanuelle Riva should have stuck around a little longer after the Oscars last year.

Ranking Best and Worst NC-17-Rated Films, as 'Blue is the Warmest Color' Opens (Video)

It was no surprise when Cannes Palme d'Or winner "Blue is the Warmest Color" earned an NC-17 rating for “explicit sexual content.” Sundance Selects/IFC Films figured that would be the case when they submitted it. They were stirring up some ratings controversy to lure people to see the lesbian romance starring two lovingly photographed nubile French actresses. They could go unrated stateside if they wanted to. They want audiences to know that the film is not trimmed or softened in any way.

Weinstein Company Nabs US and Canadian Rights for 'Macbeth,' Starring Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard

Michael Fassbender is hot. The Weinstein Company has picked up US and Canadian rights to Justin Kurzel's big-screen adaptation of Shakespeare's "Macbeth" from Studio Canal, which will star Fassbender and Marion Cotillard.

In the Works: Michael Fassbender Starring In and Producing Western 'Slow West,' Now Filming in New Zealand

Details have been revealed for a film, currently in production, starring and produced by Michael Fassbender. It is the actor's first film as a producer. "Slow West," a Western helmed by feature newcomer John Maclean, also stars Ben Mendelsohn, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Caren Postorius, and is shooting in New Zealand and Scotland.
