Why 'Jupiter Ascending' Really Got Pushed (TRAILER)

Want to know the real reason why Warner Bros. is pushing back "Matrix" creators Andy and Lana Wachowski's “Jupiter Ascending,” starring Mila Kunis and a puckish Channing Tatum, from summer season July 18 to off-peak Feb. 6, 2015? It's not only the recent studio trend to invest more time and money in already expensive would-be tentpoles rather than risk not pleasing audiences.

A trailer has landed for the most recent effort from writer-director Paul Haggis (Oscar winner "Crash"). "Third Person," which bowed at last year's Cannes, is finally eyeing a limited stateside release on June 20. Like the multiple-narrative-heavy "Crash," this new drama also follows an array of characters -- in the forms of Liam Neeson, James Franco, Mila Kunis, Olivia Wilde, Adrien Brody and Moran Atias.

This weekend marks the watershed moment in 2013 when the box office will finally lift some boats around the nation's multiplexes. That's thanks to Disney's "Oz: the Great and Powerful," which is expected to deliver some $80 million, which means that other struggling movies in theaters such as "Jack the Giant Slayer" might actually reap some side benefits.

Review: Likable 'Oz the Great and Powerful' Is Overstuffed With Digital Wizardry

Disney’s “Oz the Great and Powerful” is a $190-million prequel to the turn-of-the-century L. Frank Baum 14-book series. Directed by Sam Raimi, the film is bloated in length and overstuffed with digital 3-D wizardry, yet somehow manages to be a horse of a pleasing -- if not particularly different -- color.

'Oz the Great and Powerful' Super Bowl Teaser

Disney ran a TV spot on Sunday night's SAG awards for Sam Raimi's big-budget revisit of L. Frank Baum's wonderful world of Oz (March 8), entitled "Oz The Great and Powerful." Produced by Hollywood vet Joe Roth, the movie stars Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz and Michelle Williams as a trio of witches, wicked and otherwise, and James Franco as a hapless Kansas circus magician who somehow becomes a wizard. I have no problem with reentering this wonderful world--brought to the screen in the classic "Wizard of Oz" musical starring Judy Garland, Ray Bolger et al. The wizard in that film, caught behind the curtain, was played by Frank Morgan.
