Cannes Lineup: Veteran Auteurs, Newcomers and Awards Hopefuls; Who Missed the Cut?

Speculation about what would play at the 67th Cannes Film Festival (May 14-25) has been rampant. Well, now we know. Some movies that weren't finished or didn't make the cut will wind up in Venice or the fall film festivals. What we will see in the Official Selection of 49 titles (out of 1800 submissions) announced Thursday by Thierry Fremaux is a mix of established auteur perennials who keep coming back to competition lineup, year after year.

Weinsteins Will Hold Nicole Kidman's 'Grace of Monaco' Until 2014, Out of 2013 Oscar Race

The Weinstein Company has opted to wait on "Grace of Monaco" and release the title in the spring, keeping it out of the already overcrowded 2013 Oscar season. Per the Hollywood Reporter, the film, which stars Nicole Kidman in the title role, needs more time to be completed.

In the Works: Weinstein Company Adopts 'Paddington'; Colin Firth to Voice Paddington Bear, Nicole Kidman Joins Cast

The Weinstein Company has scooped up rights to "Paddington," the first live-action feature based on the classic children's book character Paddington Bear, created by Michael Bond in 1958. The marmalade sandwich-loving bear, to be rendered in CGI, will be voiced by Colin Firth. Nicole Kidman has also joined the cast.

Harvey Weinstein Previews Awards Slate at Cannes

Harvey Weinstein took advantage of Cannes' many attendees to gather some of them together in order to tease TWC's upcoming films and get a head start on the next round of Awards season. That has been the modus operandi of The Weinstein in recent years, which had held more intimate affairs at swanky flats off the Croisette and today opted for a make-shift screening room.
