You can't go back to Bram Stoker's Dracula too many times, it seems.

Actress Watch: Rachel Weisz's Slate Might Include Oz, Roberts & Clinton Talk, Kidman's Next Biopic?

- Nicole Kidman loves her biopics. She's flirting with the lead in Our Wild Life, about Kenyan wildlife conservationist Dame Daphne Sheldrick (now 76, pictured), known for her work with the war-torn country's endangered elephants. As The Wrap reports, Hollywood doesn't make movies like this anymore. Gone are the good old days of Out of Africa (1985) and Born Free (1966), not to mention 1988's Gorillas in the Mist, the Dian Fossey biopic starring Sigourney Weaver. No official involvement from Kidman yet, but Phillip Noyce (Salt) is currently attached to direct.

Genre Development: Sci-Fi Runner Lures Forster; Firth, Kidman & Wasikowska's Stoker; After Dogtooth

- The Runner is a futuristic sci-fi story about how the earth's surface is made uninhabitable by an attack and a group of survivors in the Rocky Mountains discover a way to send a man back in time to stop the devastation. But the man they send is secretly motivated by saving the love of his life. Disney is now developing The Runner as a vehicle for director Marc Forster (Finding Neverland, Quantum of Solace); Imagine's Brian Grazer is producing alongside Brad Simpson, Forster's Apparatus Entertainment partner. Dave Andron, who originated the concept with Blacklight Transmedia, will write the script. Imagine and Disney are aiming for a transmedia franchise with The Runner intended for simultaneous TV, video game, graphic novel and hand-held interactive content.

Indie Spirits Preview: Back to Beach with Host McHale; Oscar Nominees Favored to Win; Hudson Talks

It's back to the beach in Santa Monica (amid threats of rain) for the 26th edition of the Independent Spirit Awards, which are voted on by some 5000 members of Film Independent, and take place the Saturday before the Oscars. It won't be hard for first-time host Joel McHale (The Soup, Spy Kids 4, see video below) to improve on last year's Eddie Izzard, who phoned in his duties without seeming to have much sense of the smart indies in the room during 2010's one-off move downtown to LA Live. Former R-rated hosts John Waters, Sarah Silverman and Rainn Wilson honed in on the right vibe for this crowd. Here's the list of presenters.

Mark Your Ballots: Anne Thompson Predicts Oscar Winners

Mark Your Ballots: Anne Thompson Predicts Oscar Winners
The Oscar polls closed on Tuesday at 5 PM. No more campaigning, lobbying or pitches for attention will make a difference now. It's all in the hands of the PriceWaterhousecooper counters, and will be revealed Sunday. Meanwhile the rest of us want to win our respective Oscar pools. This year, I must warn you, is tough to call. As Kris Tapley and I discuss in our latest Oscar Talk, there are plenty of sure-calls, but also several impossible-to-predict categories: documentary and foreign film, which are voted on by small groups who must prove that they've seen all the films, and supporting actress. The shorts are always a bit of a crap shoot too. Warning: I'm going out on a limb in a few categories, so when in doubt, choose the perceived frontrunner.

SBIFF Oscar Q & A: Nicole Kidman Talks Career, Rabbit Hole
A week of celebrity tributes honoring Oscar-nominated directors and actors at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival concluded Feb. 5 with Nicole Kidman appearing to receive the Cinema Vanguard Award at the city’s spectacular single-screen theater, the 2000-seat Arlington, reports Justin Lowe. Christopher Nolan, James Franco, Annette Bening and Geoffrey Rush were among the luminaries accepting awards earlier in the fest.A packed house greeted SBIFF Executive Director Roger Durling, who began the program by introducing a 15-minute clip reel featuring a variety of films from the Oscar-winning actress’ career – from her early appearances in the 1991 romance Flirting and the comedy/thriller To Die For, to more recent titles The Hours, Cold Mountain and Margot at the Wedding, as well as one of Durling’s personal favorites, Australian director Baz Luhrmann’s musical Moulin Rouge.

Academy Nominees Luncheon: 2011 Class Photo, Meeting the Coens, Keeping It Short
What becomes a legend most? A diminutive best actress nominee sitting at the center of a group photo on last year's best actor winner's lap. At last year's nominees luncheon, Jeff Bridges was hanging with genuine affection with old pal Sandra Bullock.
