Imitation is the usual form of Hollywood flattery. You can count on a movie like "Taken" to not only spawn a sequel (which opened well enough to reinforce Liam Neeson's misguided belief that chasing big paydays is the best career path) but a slew of imitators.

Fox Searchlight reveals the poster, promo photos, and a trailer (posted below) for their latest quirky number - "Ruby Sparks" - with Paul Dano and Zoe Kazan. Directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, "Ruby Sparks" tells what amounts to a hipster pygmalion: a young novelist (Dano) suffers from writer's block and love life woes, until he starts to write a character so adorable that she manifests.

Writer-director So Yong Kim’s "For Ellen," which premiered at Sundance, goes to Tribeca Film for North American distribution. The film opens September 5 at NYC's Film Forum, followed by a limited theatrical and VOD release. Paul Dano plays a rock star who unknowingly gives away custody of his six-year-old daughter when he signs divorce papers from his estranged wife. Jon Heder and Jena Malone co-star.
