'Silver Linings Playbook' to Open Film Independent Forum

As part of Weinstein Co.'s ongoing push for David O. Russell's "Silver Linings Playbook," currently at the top of many Oscar pundit's charts in the race for Best Picture, the edgy comedy will launch this year's Film Independent Forum to be held October 19-21 at the Directors Guild of America.

The biggest name-brand film festivals are extending their reach overseas, from Sundance London to Tribeca Firenze. Not to be outshone by Robert Redford's successful --and high profile--London launch, Robert De Niro's rival Tribeca Enterprises is bringing Tribeca Firenze to the Tuscan Sun Festival in Florence, Italy.

In today's Sundance news, Millenium Entertainment has signed a deal for the U.S. distribution rights to "Red Lights," the new thriller from "Buried" director Rodrigo Cortés that premiered at the festival last Friday.
