Casting Watch: Rooney Mara Replaces Mia Wasikowska in Todd Haynes' 'Carol,' Starring Cate Blanchett UPDATED

UPDATE: Rooney Mara will play one of two leads in Todd Haynes' "Carol," adapted from Patricia Highsmith's landmark lesbian novella "The Price of Salt." Cate Blanchett is set to play the title role, while Mara will play Therese Belivet, an aspiring set designer who falls for the elegant and older Carol. Mia Wasikowska was previously attached to the role of Therese.

'Ain't Them Bodies Saints' Exclusive Video Interview with David Lowery UPDATE

Writer-director David Lowery has been putting in his 10,000 hours over the past few years, working as an editor and cinematographer on many of his friends' micro-budget projects, as part of the growing multi-tasking barter indie culture. He's helped many of the geographically disparate friends he's met on the festival circuit with their films; he edited with director Shane Carruth the much-talked-about "Upstream Color." SXSW has championed the Texas filmmaker, playing his shorts and features; "Saint Nick" showed promise on a meager $12,000 budget.

WATCH: First Trailer for Spike Jonze's 'Her,' Starring Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams, Rooney Mara and the Voice of Scarlett Johansson

The first trailer for Spike Jonze's "Her" has landed. Starring Joaquin Phoenix as a lonely writer who falls in love with a computer operating system (calling itself "Samantha" and given the husky voice of Scarlett Johansson), the film also stars Amy Adams, Rooney Mara, Olivia Wilde and Chris Pratt. Rooney Mara and Martin Sheen are on board for supporting roles in the upcoming film by Stephen Daldry ("Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close"), "Trash." Sheen will play a priest, and Mara an NGO worker in a story adapted from Andy Mulligan's 2010 novel of the same name.

'Side Effects': Soderbergh Q & A and Review Roundup [VIDEO]

As "Side Effects" co-stars Channing Tatum and Catherine Zeta-Jones were no-shows at Wednesday night’s group Q & A for the twisty new Steven Soderbergh thriller "Side Effects" (February 7), the filmmaker himself was the star of the night. Soderbergh charmed his post-screening audience at Lincoln Center’s Walter Reade Theater as thoroughly as he did the entire internet earlier this week in his conversation with Mary Kate Schilling for Vulture.

Sundance Deal: IFC Picks Up 'Ain't Them Bodies Saints'

IFC has sealed a deal for U.S. rights to David Lowery's Sundance favorite "Ain't Them Bodies Saints." The acquisition reportedly came after a battle involving the company and three other distributors that lasted through the night of January 24 and into the morning of the 25th.
