The trailer for director Alfonso Cuaron's "Gravity" -- starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock -- has finally landed. This is Cuaron's first film since the 2006 dystopian sci-fi thriller "Children of Men."

Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy to Offer Solidarity with Early Screening of Cop Comedy 'The Heat' for Boston Police

In the wake of last week's series of tragedies in Boston -- the twin bombings that killed three people at the Boston Marathon, and the subsequent manhunt that lead to the death of an MIT police officer -- director Paul Feig has arranged for his upcoming summer comedy "The Heat" to screen for Boston police.

Release Date Announced for Alfonso Cuaron's 'Gravity,' Del Toro Promises Long Takes

Alfonso Cuaron's mysterious sci-fi film "Gravity," starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock, has finally set a theatrical release date: October 4, 2013. And it promises to continue the long-take strategy Cuaron pursued on stylistically innovative "Children of Men," which did not set the box office on fire.

Career Update: George Clooney To Direct New Yorker Article-Turned-Movie, 'The Yankee Comandante'

George Clooney's career continues to flourish. No surprises there. Focus Features is in negotiations for the rights to David Grann's epic New Yorker article "The Yankee Comandante" (which only published on May 28), with Clooney attached to direct. He will also serve as a producer on the film, with his Smokehouse partner Grant Heslov.

I'll admit it came as a shock, near the end of "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close," to find myself crying. As it turns out, movies can still surprise us, and I don't just mean that they defy the expectations set by Rotten Tomatoes. I mean they can, in the midst of things, find what they've been missing.

Oscar Powers Netflix's Top Ten Most-Rented List
Netflix's ten most-rented list of all time (list below) reminds us of the long-tail Power of Oscar. And it should remind Netflix, as it splits its DVD and streaming business and alienates many of its customers who are used to relying on its deep long-tail arcania, that their solid customer base is smart adults, not the great unwashed, something they seem to be in danger of forgetting as they focus on TV and mainstream acquisitions and let smaller movies go.
