American Film Institute Announces 2013 AFI Awards Dates

For the 14th time, the AFI Awards will honor the creative teams behind the 10 most outstanding films and 10 most outstanding television programs of the year. Honorees will be announced on December 9, with a private luncheon to follow on January 10, 2014, where awards will be given.

For the 14th time, the AFI Awards will honor the creative teams behind the 10 most outstanding films and 10 most outstanding television programs of the year. Honorees will be announced on December 9, with a private luncheon to follow on January 10, 2014, where awards will be given.

The winners are selected by a jury of film and TV artists, scholars, critics and AFI trustees. The deadlines are as follows:

Television Submission Deadline: October 25, 2013
Film Submission Deadline: October 31, 2013
Honorees Announced: December 9, 2013
AFI AWARDS 2013: January 10, 2014

Thompson on Hollywood

Born and raised in Manhattan, Anne Thompson grew up going to the Thalia and The New Yorker and wound up at grad Cinema Studies at NYU. She worked at United Artists and Film Comment before heading west as that magazine's west coast editor. She wrote for the LA Weekly, Sight and Sound, Empire, The New York Times and Entertainment Weekly before serving as West Coast Editor of Premiere. She wrote for The Washington Post, The London Observer, Wired, More, and Vanity Fair, and did staff stints at The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. She eventually took her blog Thompson on Hollywood to Indiewire. She taught film criticism at USC Critical Studies, and continues to host the fall semester of “Sneak Previews” for UCLA Extension.
