AFI Fest 2012, running November 1-8 in Los Angeles, announces the titles for its Young Americans and New Auteurs programs. Young Americans features works from emerging American filmmakers (eligible for an Audience Award), while New Auteurs has titles from around the world by first and second-time directors (eligible for a Grand Jury Award). The New Auteurs jury includes Indiewire's Dana Harris, as well as David Hudson (Fandor), Gregg Kilday (The Hollywood Reporter) and Bérénice Reynaud (Senses of Cinema).

Director of the festival, Jacqueline Lyanga, states “Our New Auteurs competition section is an opportunity for us to highlight some of the strongest filmmaking by first and second time directors this year. These are films that have been garnering acclaim and winning awards at festivals all over the world and are now being showcased together for the first time.” Among last year's auteurs were Michael Roskam's Oscar nominated "Bullhead" and Julia Loktev's "The Loneliest Planet."
