AFI FEST Galas and Special Screenings Include 'Life of Pi,' 'Silver Linings Playbook,' 'On the Road' & More

AFI FEST 2012 (November 1-8) has announced its gala and special screening presentations. Highlights include more-than-likely Oscar contenders "Life of Pi" and "Silver Linings Playbook," with buzzy selections from previous festivals including "The Impossible," "West of Memphis" and "On the Road." Festival bookenders "Hitchcock" and "Lincoln" were previously announced. Full list below.

OPENING NIGHT GALA:

HITCHCOCK: The love story between the iconic filmmaker and his wife, Alma Reville, during the filming of PSYCHO in 1959. DIR Sacha Gervasi. SCR John J. McLaughlin. CENTERPIECE GALAS:

LIFE OF PI in 3D: Director Ang Lee (BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN; CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON) creates a groundbreaking movie event about a young man who survives a disaster at sea and is hurtled into an epic journey of adventure and discovery.
