Doug Liman has set his sights on Emily Blunt to star alongside Tom Cruise in the Warner Bros.' "All You Need is Kill." In-demand Blunt is in talks to join the project, which is based on a graphic novel about a soldier fighting a war against aliens who - a la "Groundhog Day" or "Source Code"- relives his last day over and over after being killed, while becoming a better and better soldier. Blunt would play his soldier comrade.

Since stealing the show in "The Devil Wears Prada," Blunt has become a favorite all-rounder - cute, smart, sexy, funny, likable - in big pics ("The Adjustment Bureau") and small ("Sunshine Cleaning"). Next up is Blunt's "Five Year Engagement" (April 27) opposite Jason Segel. She has already earned raves at Toronto and Sundance for Lynn Shelton's "Your Sister's Sister" opposite Mark Duplass and Rosemary DeWitt (IFC June 15). In the fall she stars with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis in  Rian Johnson's "Looper" (September 28).

Blunt is also said to be in the running for Rob Marshall's "The Thin Man" remake, opposite Johnny Depp. She faces stiff competition from the likes of Kristen Wiig and Emma Stone.

Cruise has three studio tentpoles lined up: "Rock of Ages" (June 15), "One Shot" (December 21) and "Oblivion" (April 26, 2013).
